FUTURE will disrupt the FR market in three different aspects:
1. Technological: Edge computing based on DNN accelerators, and best-in-class algorithms for face recognition, crowd analysis and pandemic measures prevention.
2. Commercial: Novel services for the control of COVID-19 (and other pandemics), crowd behaviour analytics, scalability, fast deployment and cost efficiency.
3. Legal: Accomplishment of GDPR and most restrictive privacy laws.
Contributing to EU priorities
FUTURE is designed to contribute to the following European Union's priorities:
1. Pandemic response: The European Commission (EC) is coordinating a common European response to the outbreak of potential pandemics. They are taking resolute actions to reinforce public health and mitigate the impact of diseases in the European Union. FUTURE will be a valuable tool to help fight virus spread and other future pandemics; as Herta has already received the EU COVID-19 Seal of Excellence.
2. Terrorism and crime prevention: FUTURE will contribute to improve citizens’ global and daily-life safety, at a large scale. It will provide a low-cost rapidly deployable solution to prevent terrorism and criminal activities in crowded places, a top priority for the EU. In such places, it is particularly easy for terrorists to go unnoticed behind their masks in the crowd.
3. Boost European Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry: FUTURE will address the 3 main objectives on EC’s agenda with regards to AI, established as one of the most strategic technologies of the 21st century.

- Low power technology: Consumption of Edge Stations below 30W, instead of a typical work station consuming 400W (more than 92.5% reduction in energy consumption).
- Affordable security solution: both for public (law enforcement, smart cities, governments) and private (building security, events, retail) sectors; thanks to the low costs and plug & play approach.
